Hrishikesh Malladi

Hi, I’m Hrishikesh, an Integrated Master’s student at NISER who spends way too much time making things as cold as humanly possible. As an experimental AMO researcher, I work with cold atoms and Bose-Einstein condensates because regular temperatures are just far too chaotic.

My current Master’s thesis focuses on observing non-Hermitian exceptional points in polarization space using cold atomic mediums. Before diving into non-Hermitian dynamics, my work centered on developing experimental quantum simulation platforms, including a visiting research term at Professor Wolfgang Ketterle’s laboratory within the Research Laboratory of Electronics at MIT.

Research Interests

  • Experimental AMO Physics: Cold atoms, Bose-Einstein condensates (BEC), and experimental Many-Body physics.
  • Non-Hermitian Physics: Investigating exceptional points, non-Hermitian dynamics, and polarization space optics in atomic mediums.
  • Quantum Platforms: Experimental setups for advanced quantum control and simulation.

Selected Milestones & Updates

  • April 2026: Delivered an semester talk detailing an experimental quantum platform to the experimental condensed matter physics panel at NISER.
  • December 2025: Concluded a visiting research term at Professor Wolfgang Ketterle’s laboratory at MIT.
